Real Life Stories of Dog Bites & The Need for Insurance

Nobody wants to imagine that their dog would bite somebody, but it is always a possibility. Even the most docile of dogs can be prompted to attack if they feel that there is a threat to their safety. According to the Center for Disease control, there are about 4.5 million dog bite incidents each year, and most of those incidents probably came as a surprise. As a dog owner, you need to prepare for the unexpected and invest in dog bite liability insurance. This type of policy can cover the costs of medical expenses and legal action that may arise in the event that your dog bites somebody. The following stories from dog bite survivors illustrate why canine liability insurance is needed.

Reconstructive Surgery for 18 Years

One woman who survived a dog attack was subject to 18 years of surgeries and medical treatment as a result of the incident. She reports that she does not remember the attack itself but vividly remembers the pain. As a result of the bite, she has become an advocate for people with facial differences. Despite this progress, she still has difficulty smiling due to three nerves in her face which were completely severed.

32 Tooth Marks After Fireworks

A man who was celebrating with friends and enjoying fireworks became an unfortunate victim of a Rottweiler attack. The incident occurred when the dog became frightened by the fireworks and tried to hide from the sound. Feeling sympathetic toward the dog, the man attempted to pet her as an act of reassurance, but things did not go as planned. The dog was not receptive and promptly attacked him. He bled profusely as a friend rushed him to the emergency room. He suffered four puncture wounds and 32 tooth marks on both of his arms.

Face With 50 Stitches

After a dog attacked a woman without warning, she found herself in the hospital receiving 50 stitches to repair extensive tearing of her face. The attack itself only lasted a few brief moments, but the damage would take years to repair — and still, she must live with the scars and trauma of the attack. The victim is a caregiver for her disabled son, and the attack made it difficult for her to continue providing care.

Three Dogs Attack Two Kids

A father was playing in the park with his two children when they were randomly attacked by three dogs. These dogs targeted the kids and caused extensive injuries before their dad could intervene and bring them to safety. The case resulted in a lawsuit that eventually escalated to the crown court in the U.K. Despite this, the owner of the dogs continued to defend them and insist that the children were the aggressors.
